Haygrove School's Debating Team Hosts Queen's College, Taunton

Haygrove School was delighted to welcome students from Queen's College, Taunton for a lively and intellectually stimulating debating competition.

Across two complex and challenging debates, students from both schools impressed with their thoughtful arguments, confident delivery, and respectful engagement with opposing viewpoints. The standard of debate was exceptionally high, reflecting the enthusiasm and preparation of everyone involved.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to develop critical thinking, public speaking, and collaboration. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with many commenting on how rewarding it was to engage with peers from another school. There was a shared sense of excitement that this may be the first of many joint competitions between Haygrove School and Queen's College.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success:
  • Mr Williams for organising the competition.

  • Miss Knott, Mr Darby, Miss Gregg, and Mr Williams for their time and expertise in judging.
  • Ms Garnett, CEO of the Quantock Education Trust, for awarding our prizes.
  • Miss Cotton for crafting the wonderful medals and trophies.

  • And the families who came along to watch and support our students.

Well done to all of the students who participated and received awards for their debating on the night. And a huge congratulations to Queen's College, who just pipped Haygrove to the winning position after a closely fought contest.

We look forward to many more opportunities to celebrate academic excellence and collaboration.
