Mr A ReidHeadteacher and Assistant DSL
Mr A Reid
Mr Reid is our Headteacher at Haygrove School, and would like to tell you a little bit about himself.
Having grown up in a small rural community in Northern Ireland, I was grateful to have received a really empowering education that gave me the ambition and opportunity to become socially mobile. At the age of 18, I decided to move to England to further my studies and experience life away from home. Almost thirty years later, here I am, a Headteacher in a fantastic school in a beautiful part of the country with a wonderful wife and two amazing children. Receiving a first class education was crucially important to my development and a sense of lifelong learning is at the core of my values. Being the Headteacher at Haygrove school means so much more to me than the role and status associated with this, it is about my belief that we are able to positively influence others, socially, morally and intellectually to improve life chances and make a positive impact on society.
Having studied for an Honours degree in Mathematics at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, I decided to complete a PGCE at the University of Southampton to become a fully qualified teacher. My first teaching post was as a teacher of mathematics and PE but quickly progressed to become head of year which I thoroughly enjoyed. My next two schools were promotions to Assistant Headteacher and Senior Assistant Head respectively. I moved to Haygrove school in 2012 to become the Deputy Headteacher, working alongside Mrs Canham.
In my spare time I like to spend time with my family. We enjoy walking in the countryside, playing and watching sport and travelling as much as we can. I particularly enjoy rugby and love to see my favourite rugby team Ulster, play as often as I can.
Mrs L MillsDeputy Headteacher - Raising Standards and Curriculum
Mrs L Mills
Mrs Mills is our Deputy Headteacher. After leaving college she went to work in a successful packaging company in her local area and worked in their main offices experiencing a range of different roles. Mrs Mills later went to work for a consultancy firm in London and spent a few years developing her ICT knowledge and later became an analyst for their Hotel & Leisure division. After spending a year travelling she decided to chase her dream of becoming a teacher. So as a mature student, she went to the University of Brighton and embarked on a four year BA Hons degree in Primary and Secondary education with ICT.
Mrs Mills began her teaching career in a large city comprehensive in Brighton in September 2006, teaching ICT. During her time there she was a School Governor and had the opportunity to be co-opted onto their senior leadership team. She left in 2013 to relocate to Somerset. Mrs Mills started at Haygrove School in September 2013 as a teacher of ICT and Business Studies. Her time in industry allowed her to share knowledge and skills through the Business Studies course and in turn achieve fantastic results year on year. She has also been given opportunities to be a Head of Year, co-opted onto SLT and is now a Deputy Head within the School, primarily looking at raising standards at KS4.
Mrs Mills has two rescue spaniel dogs which keep her occupied and on her toes! She says, "It is a great way to unwind; being forced out to walk in all weathers is a blessing in disguise!" Mrs Mills also likes to travel and explore new places, whether it is a city break or spending time to travel around a country. Even though she has been in Somerset for over six years, she still feels like a tourist and likes to explore the local area.

Miss Joseph wasn’t sure what career she wanted to pursue and after working in and traveling parts of Canada she returned to her secondary school to complete some work experience. It was there Miss Joseph was very fortunate to experience her ‘penny dropping’ moment, and says it was evident that teaching was where she wanted to be and has greatly enjoyed it ever since. Miss Joseph has been teaching for eight years and previously worked in Bristol at both Winterbourne Academy and Merchant's Academy before joining Haygrove.
