Our Student Leadership Team

We are determined that all our students have every opportunity to be the best that they can be. We encourage them to be enterprising and ambitious and to follow an education and career path that fulfils their potential. Developing leadership skills is a major part of what we offer, where everyone is asked to consider their community and how they wish to contribute to society in the future. All students are encouraged to engage in local volunteering opportunities and fundraising activities. We wish to instil the following core values and skills in our young leaders:

  • Compassion
  • Empathy
  • Responsibility
  • Communication
  • Academic Excellence

 Our Prefect Team 2023/24

Head Boy - Mal Prothero
Head Girl - Poppy Doney
Deputy Head Boy - Isaak Harris
Deputy Head girl - Ava Williams

Our Year 11 School Prefects are selected by the Headteacher and their role is to assist staff around the school and to support the younger students during registration and at lunchtime. They also liaise directly with the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure student views inform school improvement plans. Prefects, including the Head Boy and Girl and Deputy Head Boy and Girl, are important role models for younger students and provide valuable support to the Year 7 when they join the school. All our students have been introduced to the prefects in assemblies and can easily recognise a prefect by their Prefect Tie and Badge.

 Junior Leadership Team (JLT) 2023/24

Our Junior Leadership Team (JLT) allows Year 10 students to further enhance their leadership skills. Members of JLT are awarded the silver and red JLT tie and challenged to work on projects to enhance students experience of the school. They work collaboratively with staff and other Haygrove student bodies and develop their presentation skills by leading assemblies and talking to large groups such as the governing body and parents on Open Days.

 Other Leadership opportunities

The Student Senate is a forum for representatives from each year group to express their views on school life. It is led by our Senior Prefects and it is where many of our future Prefects first leadership experiences!

Extra-curricular activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, fundraising and campaigning and participation in music, drama and sports activities provide additional opportunities to build leadership skills.

Our citizenship programme is vitally important in the development of our students as confident, self-reliant and informed citizens able to effect positive change to improve their own lives and the lives of those around them.
