As we cannot invite parents and students into school to discuss choosing options for Key Stage 4 (year 10 and 11), we have compiled a range of resources to support the decision-making process.
Please watch Headteacher Mr Reid's Welcome to Options Evening which is a guide for parents and students about the options process. You can explore the different pathways and find out more information about each subject using the videos below along with the Options Booklet.
If you need to ask further questions of any of our staff, please contact the relevant teacher by using the online Contact Us form for book an appointment at the upcoming Year 9 Parents Evening.
When you have confirmed your preferred choices, you will need to complete an online options form.
To preview the forms click here, but please do not download and complete these as you will need to complete a separate online form which will be available only from 22 January.
Option Plus
Students who wish to apply to take the Option Plus (which for 2021- 2023 is GCSE Statistics) must:
- Register their interest by responding yes to the question about Option Plus on the online form (available 22 January).
- Submit a letter of application with their main Options Form to Mrs Marsh at office@haygrove.somerset.sch.uk by the deadline of 29 January.
Places may be limited, so students will be notified if they are able to join the Option Plus programme.
Vocational Pathway
Selected students will be invited to join our Vocational Pathway which is a package of courses designed to be more accessible for students studying at entry level or level 1 during year 10 and 11. Students cannot choose this pathway; a letter will be sent to parents/carers of students who might benefit from this option. However, if you do not receive a letter and feel your child will benefit from this pathway, please let us know. Find out about our Vocational Pathway here.

OUR COMMITTMENT
We seek to ensure that, as far as possible, every student is able to embark on the courses for which they have expressed a preference. In a few cases, it may be impossible to timetable some combinations of subjects. It will be necessary in some subjects to offer further guidance to particular students as to the appropriateness of their preferences.
