Our year 10 Food Safety Level 1 students visitied Sainsbury's Supermarket in Bridgwater this week to underpin their classroom learning and studies, acting within the role of the Retail Food Safety Inspector (Environmental Health Practitioner - EHP). The students were welcomed by Rachel Courtney, the Food Services Manager who is responsible for all high-risk areas of the store, including th bakery, the hot food counter and the cafe. Once the students were suitably dressed in PPE, hats and hairnets to prevent physical contamination from hair contaminating food, they had a comprehensive tour of the entire Sainsbury site, starting at the beginning with the receipt of food into the store through to the point of serving to the customers in the cafe. The tour and information was extremely valuable to the students to underpin their knowledge from studies and to prepare them for their examination in 2 weeks. The topics covered include: Safe reciept of food, Safe storage of food, Safe freezing of food, Safe preparation of food, Safe cooking of food, Safe holding of food, Waste disposal, Control of hazards and Policies and rules. Our year 10 EHP's gave Sainsburys an outstanding and exceptional rating across all areas of food safety. We wish our students every luck with their upcoming examinations!
