Over the past few months, a team of Year 10 students have been preparing a number of news stories to put together and present for the BBC School Report 2018.
The BBC School Report aims to give young people in the UK the chance to make their own news reports for a real audience. With support from BBC staff and partners, teachers help students develop their journalistic skills to become School Reporters. These budding journalists spent several lunchtimes preparing their stories and scripts ready for when they had to go out on location and report about the news!
For this year's submission, the students decided to tackle the following stories...
Local Story: Hinkley Point C and Traffic Across Bridgwater
International Story: The Doomsday Clock - 2 Minutes to Midnight
School Story: 80th Anniversary of the School Site
Once all the filming was complete, the footage was then edited together and uploaded to an interactive map for the BBC to see. The BBC then choose their favourites to focus on during the local news broadcast. Click here to see the interactive map and see what other local schools have been looking into.
Upon hearing about our involvement, the news anchors from the team (Nathanial and Eve) were invited to visit the BBC Somerset Radio Station in Taunton to look around and talk live on air about the project and their experiences! All of the students involved were absolutely brilliant throughout the project. The professionalism, creativity and enthusiasm displayed by the Year 10s was fantastic and we could not be more proud of what they have achieved. A massive thanks to Miss Hardy ad Mr Dibble for helping to organise and guide the team.
