The lucky audiences who attended our performances of Willy Russell's "Our Day Out", from 7-9 December, will remember a Great Night Out that had them laughing at the characters and sympathising with them in equal measure.
Under the accomplished direction of Mrs Guppy, the play, set in the 1970s, sees Mrs Kay, convincingly played by a confident Anna Lane, endeavouring to provide her "Progress Class" – ("Where you go when you're backward, like,") - with a wonderful day out. Her plans are hi-jacked by the uptight and strict Mr Briggs, ably played by Ryan Werner, who managed to deliver a performance that exposed the rule-bound tensions pulling at a teacher who wants to make the trip "educational". So, it's good-bye to the possibility of sampling the delights of Alton Towers, as the coach heads to Conwy Castle for "a dose of heritage".
