We are Active

Sport and Exercise

We encourage all our students to be active and get involved in sports and outdoor activities as much as possible.

There are lots of different sports available for students to take part in. From football and rugby to trampolining, netball, table tennis, cricket, benchball, athletics and horse-riding, there is something for all tastes and abilities. Everyone is welcome to attend one of our lunchtime or after school sports clubs and they may even be selected to represent the school in local, regional or national competition.

View our Sports Assembly 2017 presentation to find out about our studentís successes.

Interhouse Competitions

In 2014 we introduced our new House System which has prompted a number of inter-house sports competitions.

Outdoor Education

Each year our Key Stage 3 students take part in Year camps which allow them to experience beautiful locations including the New Forest, Wimbleball Lake and Exmoor. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to spend time together in a different environment and learn new skills. Going on a Year Camp means camping overnight, cooking outdoors and taking part in all sorts of outdoor activites such as walking, climbing, sailing, abseiling, canoeing and archery. With team building activities and singing to add to the fun, these annual trips truely are what school memories are made of!

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

Haygrove School is a champion of outdoor education and a recognised centre for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Every year around 50 of our Year 10 students undertake a range of challenges to gain their Bronze level Duke of Edinburgh Award. Throughout the year they take part in outdoor treks and overnight camps, get involved in their local community by volunteering and dedicate some of their free time to learning a new skill.

Find out more about the DofE Bronze Award here.

Some students then continue on the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme in Year 11 or when they go to further education and gain their Silver and Gold Awards through the Bob Rigby Award Unit which is based at Haygrove School. Find out about the Majorie Rigby Gold Award Bursary.

"Doing the DofE Award was a fantastic experience, it taught me about

perseverance, determination and strength. The rewards are invaluable."

Amy, ex-Haygrove student
